3L ARCHITECTS
3L architects + industrial designers was founded by Veronika Lenze, Theodor Lenze and Klaus Th. Luig in 1989. The vision of the companies´ founding members was to establish an architectural firm that is driven by a holistic approach to buildings and building processes. Instead of just design-oriented services, 3L provides services that include integrative solutions that consist of design, technology, economy and ecology. That background of the three founders is build by an education in civil engineering and a degree in architecture. 3L regards the building process within the framework of holistic project management -from project development to investment and realization, site steering and facility management – in order to improve the process approach and the building products themselves continuously. The result is a holistic approach that focuses on enhancing the quality level of the built environment. 3L has realized a large number of public buildings of various kinds over the last 25 years. Since 1990 3L has been frequently involved in R&D projects in order to improve building processes, applied technologies and/or new product solution for structure, facades and mechanical services equipment, as well. Often the developments were looking for a smarter solution while providing high-end performance qualities for a comparable affordable price. In 2000 one of the most appreciated R&D driven projects the “office 2015” concept was developed and afterwards realized. Funded as a national project by the land of Northrhine-Westfalia the 3L designers and engineers created a new type of an office building in collaboration with partners from the German and Dutch building industry. As one of the highly estimated results approximately 40 new innovative products and service solutions were developed and introduced into the market by 3L and SME partners. Meanwhile 3L has a broad experience in realizing demonstrators as a result of R&D work. Since the start of the firm 3L was involved in about 30 national and international projects funded by foundations, the land of Northrhine-Westfalia the country and the ECSC and the EU within several FP´s.
