THE EPHORATE OF ANTIQUITIES OF THE DODECANESE

The Ephorate of Antiquities of the Dodecanese has its base in Rhodes and territorial competence throughout the Regional Dodecanese section. It collaborates with the Departments of the General Directorate of Antiquities and other services of the Ministry of Culture and Sport and performs projects that are included in the Annual Action Plans , as approved by the Minister, after consulting the relevant Councils. Maria (Mania) Michailidou is the Directore of the Ephorate.
The personnel involved in conducting systematic and rescue excavations or other archaeological work and research, the study and organization of permanent and temporary exhibitions, in the formation and operation of archaeological sites, in the organization , operation and promotion of museums, depending on departmental needs and regardless of their distribution across individual departments.
In the Ephorate of Antiquities of Dodecanese , a scientific commitee is held and running, which brings together the Sector employees and specialists serving under the chairmanship of the Head of the Ephorate.
In the scientific session, which takes place at least three times a year, the action plan is discussed, the evaluation of the implementation of service targets and the potential redefine of them. In the session, the preparation of the folders for introducing issues to the relevant Local Council of Monuments is  made and also recommendations are being  drawn up to the relevant Departments of the General Directorate of Antiquities for introducing issues to KAS (Central Archaeological Council) or Museums Council, as required by legislation.
