E²ARC ENERGY EFFICIENT ARCHITECTURE RENOVATION CONSERVATION


Sara Van Rompaey studied Architecture in Ghent (Belgium) and Monument Conservation at the RLICC (Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation) at the KULeuven University. 
As owner of the Architects’ office E²ARC, she has more than 25 years of expertise in the design, development and execution of buildings projects with a special focus on energy efficient renovation and conservation. The portfolio contains restoration projects of protected monuments, energy efficient renovations of historic buildings, low energy renovations, extensions of traditional farms, rural buildings, mansions and villas, new construction of apartments, family houses and several interior design projects. 
In 2011 she was assigned by the European Commission as an independent Expert and Reviewer of EU Research projects in the field of the refurbishment of existing (historic) buildings towards Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings. 
Since 2014 she is an elected Member of the Executive Board of the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) where she is coordinates ACE Area 3 “Responsible Architecture” with the Workgroups “Environment & Sustainable Architecture” (ESA), “Urban Issues” (UI) and EU projects.  (www.ace-cae.eu)
She has a wide network through engagements and memberships in national and international professional organizations: 

  • Expert in CEN (European Committee for Standardization) TC 346/WG8 “Energy efficiency of historic buildings” 
  • Member ICOMOS ISCES “International Scientific Committee on Energy & Sustainability” 
  • Board member ICOMOS (International Council for Monuments and Sites) Belgium 
  • Expert in the Scientific Council of Europa Nostra
